Q: Sarah, what exactly does a Solutions Architect do at Meerako?

Sarah: "(Laughs) It's a bit of everything! My core job is to be the bridge between the client's business vision and our technical execution. During the Discovery Workshop, I work directly with the client to understand their goals, their constraints, and their definition of success. Then, I design the high-level technical solution—the overall architecture, the tech stack, the database model, the cloud infrastructure. I create the blueprint that our amazing development team then brings to life."

Q: What's the biggest challenge in designing complex systems?

Sarah: "Thinking about the future. It's easy to build something that works today. It's hard to build something that will still work—and be easy to change—two, five, or ten years from now. You have to anticipate scale. You have to design for maintainability. My goal is always to choose the simplest architecture that can meet the known requirements, but structure it in a way (like a Smart Monolith) that allows for easy evolution as the business grows."

Q: Meerako emphasizes being 'technology agnostic' but favors certain stacks (Node.js, AWS). Why?

Sarah: "Agnostic doesn't mean uninformed! We have deep expertise across many technologies. But for most modern SaaS and web applications, the combination of TypeScript, Node.js, Next.js (React), PostgreSQL, and AWS offers an unparalleled blend of developer productivity, performance, scalability, and ecosystem support. Node.js is fantastic for I/O-bound apps, Postgres gives you relational integrity with JSON flexibility, Next.js provides an amazing frontend experience, and AWS offers the most robust cloud platform. We choose this stack because it delivers results for our clients. But if a client has a specific need for, say, Python for AI, or Azure because they're a Microsoft shop, we absolutely have the expertise to deliver that too."

Q: What makes Meerako's approach to architecture different?

Sarah: "Two things: Pragmatism and Collaboration. We're not chasing hype cycles. We recommend boring, reliable technology unless there's a compelling reason not to. We focus on delivering business value, not on padding our resumes with the latest fad. And it's deeply collaborative. I don't just hand down a diagram. I work with the development team and the client throughout the project, adapting the architecture as we learn more. Our Transparent Agile process is key to that."

Q: What's exciting you most about technology right now?

Sarah: "Like everyone, I'm fascinated by the rapid evolution of AI, particularly AI Agents. The potential to automate complex reasoning tasks is incredible. But from an architectural standpoint, I'm also really excited about the continued maturation of serverless technologies (AWS Lambda, edge computing) and the increasing focus on platform engineering—building internal tools that make our development teams even more productive and allow us to deliver value to our clients even faster."
